Firework Safety Tips For You And Your Family

These firework safety tips for children are important during this holiday season to help keep your family safe.

Fireworks are great. They are loud, bright, and stunning to watch. And because of this, I love taking my little ones to see them on the Fourth of July. However, if you don’t know what you are doing when you are handling fireworks, you can cause serious injuries to yourself and others. So here are fireworks safety tips to keep the fun going this celebrating season.

  • Never let children play with fireworks.

  • Read and follow all warnings and instructions on the fireworks label.

  • Use fireworks outdoors only.

  • Always have water on hand in case of malfunction or fire.

  • Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Therefore, do not consume alcohol while handling or lighting fireworks.

  • Light fireworks on a flat, smooth, clean surface away from houses, building structures, vehicles, and/or shrubbery.

  • Never relight fireworks. Instead, dispose of them properly.

  • Always wear safety glasses, no loose fitting clothes, and tie hair back when lighting fireworks.

  • Keep spectators at a safe distance before lighting fireworks.

  • Never lean over a firework while lighting it.

  • Be cautious when lighting fireworks in windy conditions.

  • Light only 1 firework at a time.

  • Never smoke when handling fireworks.

  • Store fireworks in a cool, dry place.

  • Be considerate of your pets and animals when using fireworks.

  • Obey ALL local and state laws regarding the possession and use of fireworks.
Still nervous about firework safety for children? Me too. That is why I have never handled a firework in my life! So if the thought of handling fireworks make you nervous, then just go to a fireworks display.
